Hoarding 101 This activity is off the charts with many item prices climbing faster than kudzu. Seems the forum is attracting more and more people who are interested in risk reward cycles presented by stuffing your SDB. Welcome to all the newcomers, don't be shy, be sure to post your own thoughts... that is what a community is all about. Thanks to all of the oldbies who continue to post great information, you have made this forum the best resource around for earning NP. Speaking of the oldbies, there is much speculation about the influence of our boards on item prices. It does indeed seem that you all have the uncanny ability to guess the next big thing, or maybe it is the next big thing because you guessed it.

You can stick a fork in this one, it's done... Congrats to the winners, thanks to all for the creative, input and a special thanks to our very own gramdragon for all her efforts in seeing this through.

Banner Competition - A BIG One! It has been awhile since I last wrote out here so 'bear' with me. There is a certain little competition in progress currently, the SBG is looking for a banner change and it is you who will have the bragging rights of your banner being displayed millions of times through neopia. What could be better than having your art displayed millions of times? Well, how about millions of NP in prizes to be awarded to the finalists? Over three million to be more precise, all waiting for your creative talents to shine like the gold that will line the winner's pockets. For details head over to the Banner thread in 'Writers Block/Art Skool in the forum and show us all what you've got... Oh, and remember, this is open to all members of the forum, not just SBG, so even if you are tied down or don't want to commit to the full experience of what the SBG has been offering all these years, you can still join in on the fun.

One word AWESOME, why awesome? Well recent developements with one of Neodaqs umbrella sites is bringing us closer to a new era in getting big the Neopian way. For a look check out the iPricing link on the left and for details see the forum under Neopets Related. The nitty gritty of it though is we are now collecting current prices of neopets items when ImproveNeo users search the shop wiz. These prices are then saved to a database so months or even years from now we will be able to look at an items history much the as we do with stocks with charts and graphs that will show trends in pricing previously unkown in neopia. With over 1500 items added to the index within the first 72 hours or release it is a sure success and destined to become one of the most popular resources available for gaining np earning insights.

New Tools I have added a "Tools" menu to the sidebar of Neodaq. Currently there is only one tool, but hopefull the kit will grow. The first tool I hope you find usefull, especially if you like to post pieces from the spreadsheet, as it will take a cut-and-paste section and format it into a table that can be pasted into the forum.

_____________________________________________________

New Ticker We now have a stock ticker on the page.
Stocks are color coded as to their price area.
Grey are stocks below 15 (unbuyable)
Green are stocks 15-19 (buyable)
Blue are stocks 20-29 (holds)
Purple are stocks 30-49 (low sell points)
Red are stocks 50-59 (near sell ranges)
Orange are stocks 60 and up (strong sell points)
Prices are slightly delayed due to data collection

Add your feedback and your support if so inclined when the time comes there is currently a discussion in the forum concerning pestering the ENT... errr I mean petitioning the TNT about enhancing the stocks game. Some time back they had said they were going to raise the buy limit but as with most things easier said than done apparently.

Cast your vote and please follow up on this thread because as group we just might be able to get noticed. Heres the thread.

Also noteable, see the little red line on the charts? Hmmmm... richie is up to something. Looks like we now have the daily lows going in on the charts. My guess is that the highs will come along soon also. Dont know how it will work out on the long term charts but for a month or two view it looks like it will be quite interesting.

New Charts To those who actual read this notice I have a little preview for you. If you look at the text links to the stock charts, there is now a whole new set of charts, which are update (almost) every 1/2 hour. There is still a lot of work to do before this if fully implemented but it is a major break through in Neodaq technology. I wish to give a special thanks to ineedjava for developing the script which is sending this data.

New Portfolio The latest update on the stock market makes the portfolio page on Neopets much nice to work with, I have even gotten a work around working to get buy a coding error on the page. They made it even better by making it also be the sell page

Digging that Data on the off chance you have missed the new link on the left be sure to check out 'Richies Data Mine' For the numbers nuts out there this is a veritable treasure trove of information. This new tool allows you to look into the history of the stocks in the way you want to.

Richie isn't sitting on his laurels basking in the praise that is so rightfully his for all the work he has put into the site. Rather he is hard at work on a number of additions and enhancements for the site including a new version of the Data Mining page that will add much more flexibility.

Of Note: Also want to mention for those who follow the grading of stocks. The system for grading stocks has been changed. For the last three years I have used each stocks average for computing grade and over time it has just not held up. The new system uses the frequency the stock moves from the buyable range to above 45, and the more often this happens the higher grade it will get. This will likely cause some upset for those who have a port full of stocks currently rated high as some of them will get a lower rating but don't worry about it and don't sell them off just because their grade changed.

BDvENT.com is looking for avid BD'rs/coders/artists interested in helping to build up this new site. If this is you then be sure to check out the thread in the BD Chat board of the neodaq forum.

Hey hey hey... The charts are back, whoo hooo. I finally got things sorted and working and not without plenty of hair pulling I might add. PT and I probably look like twins now but the charts are working and being built on the fly from the database to boot. The page isnt real pretty right now but I will be working on that soon and hopefully adding a lot of new features for sorting and comparing the data. Use the link on the left to find them and enjoy...

_____________________________________________________

Here's an interim fix for the xls to accommodate the two new stocks ACFI and TNPT. I did'nt mess with the charts so there might still be some problems there but the rest of the sheet works fine. Also you will need to delete the stocks put in after the first refresh then put your data in for the BUYS and SALES pages. NeodaqXLS_v6_0h2.zip

After a long and arduous battle in the NWC Team wars the SBG battlers fought their way to a Third place overall. Hearty congratulations go out to the entire team for representing the SBG in a way that makes us all very proud. Also a special note of thanks to trikey for heading up the team. Once again a nice trophy comes to the SBG cabinet... Watch out next time is all I can say because this group just keeps getting bigger and badder all the time.

Well the introduction of the new stock LDSC has caused more than a few people to go scrambling about trying to figure out what was wrong with their spreadsheet. While in some ways it is nice to see some change in the game that doesnt involve our shares langing on zero it always causes me consternatation as it means back to the XLS to try and fix things up. With so many people adding code to the sheet over the last few major versions it seems so foriegn to me not to mention the other spreadsheet that I use to track the data in as it complains too.

I think everything is working well in this new version but if there are problems please report them in the forum, here is the file

*Note* a a couple small fixes added that were missed in 6.0f so here is 6.0g NeodaqXLS_v6_0g.zip

AAVL hits ?? For a Million NP It has been some long time now since I first offered this contest up, since Sep 19, 2003 to be exact. Wow, that has been nearly a year and a half ago and now with AAVL seeing ground it has not been on since before then could this mean that someone will be cashing in on the Million NP?

At 43 as of this writing it seems to be getting close. Be sure to get your guesses in on the date in the thread linked above. I would love to see someone win this one as I am sure the lucky winner will love having a million NP dropped on them.

Be sure to read the first post in that thread before posting to make sure your guess will count and try and keep the list ordered properly to make it easy for the next person who comes along to insert their guess into the list.

12/29/04 Santy hits Neodaq forums, I was lucky in that it seems nothing was touched by the worm other than the forum script files. The forum database and the rest of neodaq.com appear to have been untouched. Lucky of course means all of the files that make up the forum had been deleted so the forum had to be rebuilt from scratch. Since I have set up a few of these this part is only an hours work but of course there has to be a fly in the ointment.

Some time back I had set up a dedicated server for some other websites of mine. Since I had this server with plenty of horsepower sitting idle I have been wanting to move neodaq.com from the shared hosting provider where it was currently located (number of reasons here from flexibility in what I can do with the site to the ten bucks a month I was shelling out for no real reason). I also registered neodaq.info so I would be able to make the move in small steps without interrupting the site while doing so.

The ointmented fly - moving a forum with as many members and posts as this one is not an easy task. The database is very large (250MB + uncompressed) and on a connection like mine (2-way satellite) this is compounded so I have been dragging my feet on doing it. Luckily I had a backup only a few hours old so very few posts were lost. Having the forum wiped out meant I was going to have to go through all these steps anyhow just to get it back online so I took the opportunity to make the move now. I spent about eight hours uploading files, googling for help and editing php scripts but now it is done and on its new domain where it should remain neodaq.info/forum so please update any bookmarks.

There are likely to be some hiccups that will need to be worked out so bear with me. This morning already there was a sessions full error which google once again provided a fix involving editing a php file related to how data currently being accessed is stored (memory or disk). Hopefully this fix is permanent.

The avatars directory was also wiped out. I had an old backup and will be looking for a more recent one I think I have on my notebook from a couple months back. I have uploaded the old one (about a year old) and will check for the newer one soon. If you avatar has not shown back up by new years then you will have to re-upload it, sorry.

Lastly, there were a lot of mods on the forum that made things a little nicer to use (quick post) interesting (word count) or just different (gabby). Most if not all of these mods will not be reinstalled. I am only going to be working on things affecting the stability of the forum. My reason is simple, this is a clean install of the forum at the perfect time, ver 2.2 of phpBB has been announced for a beta release in a month or so and neodaq forum will be quickly upgraded provided there are no large problems with the release. Having an umodded forum will make this much less painful.

Advent calendar link added to the Daily links and War Status added next to the Battledome link to keep you up to date on the war.

Neodaq.xls back on track thanks to those folks from the forum who continue to fix and improve this spreadsheet. What a group effort his has become with so many people adding fixes or offering code snippets each time it goes down.

My apologies if I am sometimes a little slow about getting the new files up but they have to be combed through and tested before I will post them on the site for all to download. In the interim during a broken file episode I simply add my buys and sales manually which is what I suggest everyone else to do so you will have complete records once a new working copy is available.

If fixing these files was left just to me there would be a much longer wait because of the trial and error method of my own madness not to mention the creative additions that are a benefit of a group exercise so I really want all who contribute to know that you have my thanks.

Having had a web presence since 1997 I have been hosted on a few different companies servers.

It is a real pain when you find that either because your current host cannot offer you the tools you need or prices become too competitive elsewhere you have to move. When your sites become large and complex this can be a daunting and unpleasant task.

Well, I think I have finally found the perfect host. These folks offer everything you could want in a host along with the best prices around.

If you are looking for hosting please have a look using the link below, if you are buying be sure to come back here and use this banner link when you sign up as they will toss me a couple bucks for sending you their way.

1and1

Thanks, w3
